I'm starting a Victoriana campaign. It's a fantasy-ish steampunk-ish setting in Victorian Britain. Here's a link to a handy map of London. Gaming starts Sunday November 8th, 2009.

Here's some random facts about the starting year of 1867 to give you some guidelines as to what's going on (assuming you, like me, tend to look at the world through its literature):

Das Kapital was published this year.

Jules Verne is 39, and has only published two books to date: Journey to the Center of the Earth, and From the Earth to the Moon.

H. G. Wells was just born (in 1866).

Rudyard Kipling is only 2 years old.

Arthur Conan Doyle is only 8 years old.

Charles Dickens is 55, and has published the vast majority of his work already.

Robert Louis Stevenson is 17, and hasn't published anything yet.

Edgar Allen Poe has been dead for almost 20 years (or IS he?).

Mary Shelley has been dead since 1851, and her novel Frankenstein has been in publication since 1818.

Bram Stoker is 20 years old and unpublished.

Mark Twain is 32 but has yet only published (this year) one piece of fiction: The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.

Alfred, Lord Tennyson is 58, well published (though a few of his more popular pieces are still to come), and is Poet Laureate for the British Empire (and has been the last 17 years).
